Morning's environmental commitments all share a single goal: limiting the carbon impact of our workspaces. With this in mind, the team carries out various actions, including life-cycle analysis of our spaces, sourcing responsible suppliers and also eco-designing furniture pieces.
Furniture can account for a significant share of your workspace's carbon footprint. For some Morning spaces (bearing in mind that we do not handle the structural works), this share can be as high as 50% of the carbon footprint.
The choice of materials is therefore of great importance. Morning's interior architects carefully select furniture made from durable materials, drawn from the French economic fabric. Recycled badminton shuttlecocks, recycled plastic, repurposed shells, wood and steel sourced in France… Here is a quick overview of 5 recycled materials to favour for more responsible furniture. #1 TRANSFORMED BADMINTON SHUTTLECOCKS,
for your tables and wall cladding
- with Compo'Plume -
Every year in France, badminton generates more than 20 tonnes of waste. Compo'plume has set itself the goal of putting this waste to good use by creating new durable materials. Do call on them to make your furniture pieces. Their catalogue currently features 3 references:
☞ COMPO'PLUME® VBA ORIGINE, composed of more than 70% ground badminton shuttlecocks. It is ideal for making table tops.
☞ COMPO'PLUME® VBA EVOLUTION, composed of more than 80% ground badminton shuttlecocks. It is perfectly suited to fitting out wall cladding, for example.
☞ COMPO'PLUME® VBA LIGHT, composed of more than 90% ground badminton shuttlecocks. The “light” version is perfectly suited to the manufacture of acoustic panels or thermal insulation.

#2 RECYCLED PLASTIC,
for large table tops.

Les Tokés du Plastik, Good plastic company and le Pavé share the same goal: making the use of recycled plastic mainstream.
“Every second, 10 tonnes of plastic are produced. 79% of this production ends up in landfill, in drains, or straight into nature. Recycling accounts for just 9% of the mass”. These figures set out by les Tokés du Plastik reveal just how little-known this material's many qualities remain. And yet...
Plastic is a 100% recyclable material. Its shaping and machining are simple compared with other materials. Another virtue to its credit: plastic can be sanded and repolished for a new lease of life. Moreover, it can take on a wide variety of colours, depending on the waste incorporated. In terms of décor, it's a key asset!
Whatever your technical constraints or your decorative intentions, recycled plastic can be built into the making of your meeting tables.

#3 REPURPOSED SHELLS
for small "bistro" tables
- with Malákio and Ostrea design -
Oyster farming generates 250,000 tonnes of shell waste every year in France. Only 5 to 10% of this waste is recycled. Ostrea design and Malákio aim to give a second life to this valuable natural resource. The two manufacturers combine craft expertise with durable materials. The shells are collected, sorted and then repurposed in Brittany.
The variety of shells, both in their colours and their grain sizes, gives the material great versatility. Each piece is therefore unique and customisable.
The process of repurposing shells requires 4 key steps:
☞ The collection of the shells (oysters, mussels or scallops)
☞ The transformation of the shells into flakes
☞ The creation of material sheets from these flakes
☞ The machining and customisation of the bespoke material.

#4 WOOD FROM SUSTAINABLE FRENCH FORESTS
for your large table tops
- with the Morning workshop (among others) -
Morning uses French wood from sustainably managed forests to eco-design its furniture. The solid wood used to make the furniture in the range is, to that end, certified FSC and PEFC; these certifications guarantee its French and sustainable sourcing.
Managing a forest sustainably means ensuring that the annual timber harvests do not exceed its capacity to renew itself, for better preservation of forest ecosystems.
French manufacturing, for its part, helps to reduce the carbon footprint of transporting raw materials and finished products. This is notably the case with the shared table, one of the table models created by the Morning furniture designers. The amount of wood used is scaled back to limit the table's carbon footprint without compromising its durability or design.

#5 "MADE IN FRANCE" STEEL
For desks or lockers
- with the Morning workshop (among others) -
Steel is a robust, hard-wearing material that deteriorates very little over time. Furniture made from French steel can be used for a long time without needing to be replaced. In France, the steel used in furniture is composed of at least 75% recycled steel.
Steel has several interesting properties that make it a material of choice for eco-designing furniture:
☞ Steel is a restorable material: used steel can be re-lacquered if the top layer is damaged.
☞ Steel is a material that is 100% recyclable and endlessly so, without losing its properties.
☞ The production of French steel is generally low in carbon emissions, as is its transport.
☞ Elegant, modern designs can be created from steel, such as the white cylindrical legs.
All the furniture products eco-designed by the Morning workshop are made with French steel, whether it is the structure of our eco-designed desk, that of our lockers or our meeting tables.
