In the autumn of 2023, Morning and Nexity are launching the second season of the accelerator. The programme's mission remains the same: to champion innovative solutions that limit the environmental impact of the building sector.
Last year, the Accelerator supported a first generation of ambitious, innovative solutions developed by Ostrea, Malàkio, Compo'plume, Terrio, Les Tokés du Plastik and PowerOfMoss. Materials, reuse, construction processes, and more. Each of them worked on projects tied to a wide range of fields.
This year, the focus will be on projects tied to the optimisation of building flows. From all the applicants, five projects will be selected by two rigorous selection committees. And what's in it for the chosen companies? Greater visibility, access to Morning's network and expertise, along with the chance to test their solutions on our sites. It's an opportunity not to be missed!
A look back at the projects of Accelerator #Season1
On 4 October 2022, Morning made a strong commitment alongside Standard Deviation and Nexity by launching the first season of the Accelerator dedicated to projects in the sustainable building sector. The goal: to support young companies as they grow through a mentoring programme.
To be eligible, applicants' projects had to fall within one of the following five themes: new materials, reuse and reconditioning, greening and biodiversity, energy performance and retrofitting, and new construction processes.
Here is a quick overview of these innovative projects and the solutions they developed.
☞ New materials with Malàkio:
Malàkio creates furniture and decorative pieces from recycled seashells. A perfect marriage of craftsmanship and sustainability, with each piece a unique work. Malàkio furniture is currently being tested at Morning Laffitte and Morning Miromesnil. For the fit-out of the shared areas at Laffitte, 24 bistro tables are involved.
☞ Reuse and reconditioning with Compo'plume and Ostrea:
Compo'plume is devoted to putting badminton waste to good use in order to design sustainable materials. 14 examples of the 50 cm diameter table are placed around the various spaces of Morning Mogador. At Morning Pont de Neuilly, the meeting-room table tops are made from Compo'plume.
The Ostrea teams focus on transforming marine waste into responsible, well-designed materials. Their point of difference? The look of their furniture. In total, 13 tables are placed at Morning Pont de Neuilly.
☞ Greening and biodiversity with PowerOfMoss:
PowerOfMoss specialises in interior insulation and greening using natural moss. This dense and versatile material breathes new life into urban spaces by encouraging the regrowth of healthy plants. The test phase will begin shortly, on one of the Nexity sites.
☞ Energy performance and retrofitting with Terrio:
Terrio is revolutionising construction with low-carbon raw earth blocks. Not only do they reduce environmental impact, they also offer a unique design and genuine durability. The test phase will likewise begin in the coming months, on one of the Nexity sites.
☞ New construction processes with Les Tokés du Plastik:
Les Tokés du Plastik are waging war on single-use plastic by creating recycled, attractive materials. Innovation is at the heart of their approach. A prototype bistro table top made from recycled plastic is currently being produced!
A new season, to optimise building flows
Given the quality of the solutions selected and the promising test phases, Morning and Nexity have chosen to launch a new call for projects. For this second season of the Accelerator, the focus will be on one very specific area: the optimisation of building flows.
Major environmental challenges
The Ministry for the Energy Transition explains that, in France, the building sector is the second-largest emitter of greenhouse gases, contributing 27% of CO2 emissions, while close to 45% represents France's annual energy consumption, making it the country's biggest consumer of energy.
AD Validem, a company specialising in insulation, confirms the Ministry for the Energy Transition's figures and highlights the fact that many experts have noted that a large part of the energy used to power buildings is in fact wasted.
According to ADEME, today around 70% of buildings account for 26% of total greenhouse gas emissions. In 2019, the construction of a new building accounted for around 60% of this sector's carbon footprint. Figures like these place building efficiency at the heart of the sector's concerns.
And that's not all. In the professional world, close to half of energy consumption is down to heating, followed closely by air conditioning (20%) and lighting. All these figures illustrate the need and the urgency of finding solutions capable of limiting this environmental impact.
The Accelerator is aimed at all companies developing solutions to this end, in particular to devise buildings that use less energy.
The objectives for preserving the environment and its natural resources are many. If you are developing a new insulating material with novel capabilities, if you are devising a system to recover construction waste, if you have just created a new material from that waste, and so on. We invite you to take part in our call for projects, without further delay.
How to take part
The Morning Accelerator is designed for companies keen to put to the test a solution advanced enough to be used on a building site. This programme offers them three essential opportunities:
☞ Increase their visibility,
☞ Test their solution in real conditions,
☞ Put in place a structured strategy to maximise their impact.
The programme is open to French-speaking and English-speaking companies. Each team can be made up of one to five people, depending on the structure and needs of the project. To check their eligibility, applicants must fill in a quick nine-question form. If their solution meets the programme's selection criteria, they will receive an application pack within the following 10 days.
The length of the acceleration programme varies from 6 to 9 months for each project. Applying is free, but the selected companies will need to pay a contribution of €2,500 to take part in the programme.
1 call for projects, 5 solutions selected
At the close of this call for projects, each committee will select five solutions. You have until the end of November to submit your application for the first call for projects. Applications submitted after this date will be considered by the second selection committee.
