When fit-out goes hand in hand with commitment
Circular economy and reuse on every floor
Designing an eco-conscious workspace begins in the very first stages of the build, particularly when it comes to reuse and saving materials. Two levers to be pulled on both the works and the furniture and equipment.
Works centred on reuse
With more than thirty spaces, the Morning team opens and closes spaces throughout the year. To manage the flow of materials in and out, the “works and fit-out” team keeps a permanent stock.
Emma Imboden is the works manager on the Cléry space. She also made it a point of honour that the build should follow a logic of reuse. “In both works and fit-out, the reuse of materials was the guiding thread of building the Cléry space”.
“For the materials, we had to rummage through our stocks!”, notes Emma Imboden. Nearly 200 litres of paint come from the works on the Concorde space – opened in spring 2021 (a good part of which will be applied by Emma’s own fair hand). Paint isn’t the only thing to be reused. Wallpaper from our stocks also dresses the walls of 6 meeting rooms.
Furniture and materials from the circular economy
The chief enemy of eco-responsibility is overconsumption. With this in mind, the interior architects of the Morning Cléry space carried out careful research to plan the layout of the space around the existing pieces of furniture. This also applies to the office furniture. So it is that 150 desk legs come from Morning Amsterdam, along with 110 chairs placed across the various floors.
A collaboration with Maisons du Monde Business allowed us to give a second lease of life to eco-designed furniture, reused following a press day in the showroom. Among the pieces are the Cesta armchair in acacia tones and the Canage sofa in the shared spaces.
Beyond the offices, the circular economy also extends to the spaces for sharing and moving about. The ground-floor benches, the alcoves, the soundproofed phone booths and the worktop on the fifth floor are also entirely made from reused materials.
The large coffee bar on the ground floor is the fruit of a close collaboration with Le Pavé (a supplier of eco-construction materials). Its huge bespoke top contains 114 kg of recycled plastic.

Sharing and impact at the heart of its mission
Beyond reusing materials and furniture, Cléry stands out for a whole set of responsible practices encouraged among its occupants and for a programme of events dedicated to the social and environmental responsibility of organisations.
Responsible practices encouraged
Like all Morning spaces, the fit-out of Cléry also aims to spur exchanges and sharing between members. That’s why the space is brimming with places to share and talk. Laura Vandenbosch – the space’s manager – is there to make those exchanges easier. Far more than an administrator, she is here to bring her community to life and spark interactions between the various occupants of the premises.
Among them, let’s mention in particular the Institut du Capitalisme Responsable (a research collective devoted to new practices in capitalism) alongside Yo’Time (which offers workplace yoga classes), Dott (specialists in electric scooter hire) and Tim Sports (specialists in company bike hire for employees).
Partnerships forged with eco-friendly providers
To encourage responsible practices in the workplace, several initiatives are under way. Sorting is at the heart of good workplace practice, with Morning Cléry having set itself a Zero waste goal. To support us day to day, we can count on Lemon Tri, which installs sorting equipment in the offices, and Les Alchimistes, an organisation that collects and makes use of food waste. Beyond sorting and collecting our waste, we keep an eye on all our consumption thanks to Planète Oui, a supplier of green electricity and biogas. For laying out the green spaces, the teams called on Akagreen – a biophilic landscaper and fit-out specialist, expert in plant arrangements that respect the environment.
Another point worth mentioning: the coffee bar aims to be zero waste and is a member of the 1% for the Planet collective (an international non-profit environmental collective). Each year it gives 1% of its turnover to a charity chosen by the members.
The space also has a winter garden on the 1st floor with a lounge area, ideal for cultivating fruitful conversations!
A platform dedicated to impact events
As an eco-friendly workspace, Morning Cléry devotes a large part of its events calendar to hosting inspiring conferences. They are given over to impact and to the social and environmental responsibility of organisations. Set on the top floor, the ultra-bright venue is made for conversation. Each month, the Cléry workspace offers encounters with committed collectives and public figures and with impact experts.
So it is that, in March 2022, Morning Cléry is hosting an event to shine a light on the B-Corp label – short for "Benefit Corporation". This label certifies companies with a positive societal and environmental impact. In France, the label brings together nearly 150 companies. The event will be a chance for the organisation B-Lab to present the certification process to the Morning community. A workshop led by B-Leaders – impact or CSR managers at companies – will allow participants to discuss the certification process. Finally, Morning members who are already certified (such as Too Good To Go) will also come to share and set out their experience.
Alongside the conferences, a breakfast on the theme of impact is organised jointly with Article 1 (an organisation specialising in the professional integration of young people that promotes equal opportunity). This moment of sharing and exchange – open to all members – takes place on the second Tuesday of every month.
