Space manager: a springboard job towards other adventures

In 2021, 60% of employees were planning to change careers or were already in the process of retraining, according to a study by La Tribune - Économie. From simple dissatisfaction to a desire to shake up their work routine, the reasons for retraining are varied. However, moving your career forward does not necessarily mean changing company. Thanks to internal mobility, the company keeps its talent by offering them a different role. For their part, the employee who values the company culture will continue the adventure with their colleagues within a flexible organisation.
At Morning, internal mobility is a common practice. This is explained in particular by the fact that we bring our roles in-house:  fit-out, architecture, design, management, events… So many potential moves between roles that have no watertight boundaries. However, the workspace manager role - through the versatility of its tasks - is the one that opens up the most springboards towards new adventures. We introduce a few profiles of former Morning managers who opted for internal mobility.

Anissa, community manager,
From space management to bringing the community to life

Anissa Bennai

Anissa Bennai joined Morning in 2016 as a space manager at the former Morning Levallois. At the time, Anissa was working part-time so she could carry on with her entrepreneurial activity alongside. After a year and a half at the helm of Morning Levallois, Anissa saw her path evolve.

"In 2018, when the Levallois space closed, I had the opportunity to stay on within the team. As a Morning manager, I was close to the members and enjoyed bringing them together. So I created the community manager role that I still hold today. My job is to unite the members and create interactions!"

Anissa had to make a choice and has worked at Morning full-time since retraining. "The process was smooth, mainly thanks to the autonomy that Morning gives its employees. Project-based working allows a great deal of cross-team collaboration, which lets everyone discover each other's roles", she stresses.

The community manager points out that roles constantly need reinventing. "With the Covid restrictions, interactions between members were at a low ebb. Over these last two years, we've had to try new things. The digitalisation of interactions, and the opening of many spaces, lead you to consider broader, and more regular, models too. "Every day, I have to reinvent and test new channels to bring the community to life. Today, even though I keep the same label, my role is evolving".

Bérangère, experience manager,
From space manager to customer experience

Bérangère Jannet

A Morning manager for 3 years, Bérangère Jannet managed several spaces, sometimes simultaneously. Between September 2018 and the summer of 2021, she was at the helm of the  Neuilly Hôtel de Ville, Neuilly Charles de Gaulle, République, Sébastopol and Argentine spaces.

At the end of this experience, Bérangère wished to get involved in a cross-disciplinary project. "I wanted to devote myself to developing the sport and well-being offering across the Morning spaces", Bérangère explains, before highlighting the marketing side of her work. "It was essential for me to combine my marketing skills with my hands-on Morning experience in the field. You have to bear in mind that the workspace isn't everything. To stand out from our competitors and build member loyalty, we needed to develop a genuine experience. During my 3 years as a Morning manager, I was able to listen to everyone's needs and I could see the huge playing field in front of me".

It is never all that simple to change roles during a health crisis. Like any economic player, Morning had a difficult year in 2020 and Bérangère had to bide her time. "Even though the pandemic slowed my project down somewhat, the conversations with human resources were always open and smooth. Creating a new job description always takes a certain amount of time, the time needed to define the requirements and to consult the main people concerned by the new duties". The former space manager praises the HR team's attentiveness and efficiency: "Leaving Morning without developing this offering would have given me the feeling of an unfinished mission; and the HR team fully understood that. Taking these health and professional challenges into account, they did everything to make my internal mobility project easier and to speed it up", she emphasises.

Alessandro Volpi, business developer,
From space management to the Sales team

Alessandro Volpi

Alessandro Volpi was successively manager of the Morning République and Morning Concorde spaces. With almost 2.5 years of experience under his belt, Alessandro wished - in April 2022 - to move towards a new role: that of business developer.

This sales side is part of the Morning manager's duties, but Alessandro wanted to make it his profession. "I'm moving into a role that has appealed to me for a long time and I'm supported by the whole Morning team", Alessandro stresses, before adding: "I already knew the sales team well, I can't wait to work with them. I know I'm going to learn a lot alongside them".

The internal mobility option established itself of its own accord. "I really enjoy being at Morning, but I was starting to feel I'd done all there was to do in my role. Internal mobility lets me have the best of both worlds: staying within this setting that I appreciate and moving towards a new role that appeals to me."

As for the process, it was smooth and straightforward. "I'm in direct and constant contact with all the people involved, in particular human resources. The exchanges are spontaneous and direct. This change has given my motivation a fresh boost. And for the future? I see myself growing within the Sales team for now. But given how easy it is and the opportunities to progress internally, I'm not ruling out the possibility of discovering another role later on!".
