The role of space manager,
as told by Laurène Barbe
*****
“Being a Morning Manager means being the conductor of a workspace. It’s quite simply like being a hotel manager, except that instead of rooms, you’ve got offices”, Laurène Barbe tells 3615 job. In this interview, the Morning manager sets out the 4 main responsibilities that come with the space manager role.
- Client management: making sure all the members have a good day’s work in the space, looking after their every need so they feel at home.
- Operational management: making sure the building is fully functional (network, wifi, lighting, water, etc.) and entirely usable by the members.
- Administrative management: maintaining relationships with suppliers and handling invoicing.
- Events: bringing the space’s community to life by creating opportunities to meet and connect between members (breakfasts, afterworks, gourmet coffee mornings, workshops, etc.).
When a new workspace opens, or an entire floor is fitted out for a large client, the Morning manager takes on the role of coordinator and oversees the smooth running of the refurbishment works. “We coordinate the architecture and works teams, and act as the link with the client; communication has to be excellent!”
As for the profiles sought for the role, Laurène stresses the diversity of backgrounds among the roughly 45 Morning managers at Morning. “As soon as we arrive, every new Morning manager attends a 3-week training programme called the “Morning School”. We all come from different backgrounds, and this training lets us all start from scratch on an equal footing!”

The role of barista,
as told by Julie Boffy
*****
“In practical terms, the barista role is about being the members’ point of welcome in their workspace”, says Julie Boffy.
In her interview with 3615 job, the former barista walks through a typical day. “In the morning, I welcome the members into the space and take their coffee / breakfast orders. I also handle parcel and post deliveries and greet visitors arriving for meetings”, Julie explains.
But the big challenge for a barista from day one is becoming quickly self-sufficient behind their coffee bar. Julie highlights the adaptability the role calls for. “It’s essential for a barista to quickly get to grips with how their coffee bar works, so they can best meet the needs of the people using the space. Versatility and adaptability are highly prized qualities for this role! If you’re looking for work to top up your main activity, go for it at Morning.” (further reading on this: Barista, a flexible activity for entrepreneurs).

The role of full-stack developer,
as told by Ruben Podadera
*****
Ruben Podadera, full-stack developer at Morning, gives us the broad outlines of his job. “Our mission is to develop web tools, in particular a website, an app and a platform. Each tool is aimed at a different segment: clients, prospects or the in-house team”, says Ruben.
The tech team, though, has a working method all of its own. “We work in an agile way, following the scrum method”, Ruben explains. He goes on: “These are projects (called “sprints”) that last two weeks, punctuated by a few meetings (known as “ceremonies”). To close out each sprint, a “retrospective” meeting is held so everyone can speak freely about their achievements and their difficulties over the past fortnight!” A well-honed way of working that gives team members freedom and autonomy.
The developer also shines a light on the difficulties encountered when it comes to recruiting developers. “We have more and more need in the digital space, and the demands from the various in-house teams keep growing”, Ruben points out. He continues: “As for candidates, we’re not at all fixed on one particular type of profile. Above all we’re looking for people who are curious, open-minded and keen”. A word to the wise for anyone looking for a role in tech!
